Gus Poyet wants a striker with “presence” to complete his Albion squad after confirming a deal is in place for Swansea midfielder Ryan Harley.

He is still keen to add to the firepower provided by Craig Mackail-Smith, Will Hoskins and Ashley Barnes before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

Barnes has already scored three goals in the Seagulls’ four straight wins so far, two of them penalties.

Mackail-Smith has netted once in three outings and fit-again Hoskins was on target on his debut as a substitute in Wednesday's 3-1 win at Cardiff.

Bringing in another senior front man ahead of Dutch rookie Roland Bergkamp and Norwegian prospect Torbjorn Agdestein will give Poyet a wealth of options.

The manager, asked what he is looking for, told The Argus: “It’s something a bit different, a little more presence. People think that because you want one type of player there has to be a striker like that out there but there are not many.

“It’s about their character as well, the football we play, the place, the division, so we need to make sure we get the right one.”

Poyet is predicting Albion supporters will warm to free-scoring Harley, who will complete his £250,000 move from Swansea in the next few days.

“He's got certain qualities, especially attacking, that we don't have in the team," said the Uruguayan.

“He'll bring very good options on the ball. He can play in different positions as well, depending on how we play.

"There are not many players with his type of qualities and I am sure they will like him here.

"The fans will enjoy watching him play because he is a very good player on the ball and he understands the game and he will make it difficult for the opposition.

"He will find a pass, a shot, a cross, and assist, so there are plenty of things he is going to give us."
