Steven Gerrard has been pencilled in for his Liverpool comeback at The Amex.

The England midfielder will not be involved in Sunday’s Premier League visit to Spurs, according to sources on Merseyside.

Gerrard is being lined up instead to return to action against Albion in next Wednesday’s third round Carling Cup clash.

The 31-year-old has been under treatment for an infection arising from career-saving groin surgery in April.

The Liverpool tie could also see Spanish signing Vicente make his first appearance in the Seagulls’ squad, as well as marking the return to contention of hip injury victim Will Hoskins.

Boss Gus Poyet has hinted Hoskins will not be involved again at Leicester tomorrow.

Poyet said: “I think it will be easier on Wednesday, because we have got the chance to add two more players to the bench.

“The most difficult thing for him to accept is it is not a big injury but aches, so it is frustration for him more than anything.

“That frustration sometimes makes you try to get back earlier and push through the pain. We know how much he wants to play but we need to have him fit to be performing at his best, so we are going slowly with him at the moment, especially with the team doing so well.”

Albion’s Norwegian striker Torbjorn Agdestein is joining Blue Square Bet Premier basement club Bath City on a month’s loan to gain more experience.
