Craig Noone reckons he has proved a point since Liverpool ended his Anfield dream.
The Albion winger tackles the home city club he supports tonight, 12 years after he was shown the door by a Liverpool legend.
Noone, 23, said: “I was at Liverpool when I was a young lad and then got released when I was 11.
“Steve Heighway was the one that released me that night. It was a horrible time for me.
“I know Stevie well and every time I have bumped into him since he has told me well done and to keep going and I’ll get to where I want to be.”
Noone fought his way back through the non-league ranks after Liverpool let him go, at Skelmersdale – where Heighway was spotted – Burscough and Southport “Games like this shows how far I have come really,” said the former Plymouth wide man. “I look at it as if to say I’ve proved a bit of a point. I’m playing against Liverpool and in the Championship week in week out in front of 20,000.
“I obviously want to go as high as I can. I’m not going to settle for where I am. I’m only going to get better under the manager here.”
