Albion have dropped to 12th in the Championship ahead of Monday's home game against West Ham.
Leeds and Hull moved above them today with last-gasp 3-2 victories away to Peterborough and at home to Watford respectively.
Amazingly, the Seagulls are back above Leicester on goal difference after they suffered a shock 3-0 home defeat by Millwall.
Gus Poyet's side could drop a further place tonight but only if Reading beat leaders Southampton by two clear goals.
Albion will jump over Hammers into fourth if they win on Monday. A draw would lift them to ninth.
