Gus Poyet admitted Albion were not at their fluent best as they beat Coventry today.

But he was delighted to score a second successive home win and remain in touch with the top six.

Poyet's side had to work hard for their 2-1 success.

It was a welcome result after winning just one of their previous 11 games.

Ths boss declared: "I said last week we had one win in the last two. Now it's two from three.

"We are not at our best, we know that.

"We are not outstanding, we are not dominating games the way we would like for different reasons.

"But we are one point outside the play-offs."

Poyet admitted his side and their fans had to endure a tough second half as they preserved their slender advantage although Casper Ankergren was never really tested.

He added: "There were some nerves. You feel that from the stands as well.

"But when you are in the situation we were in a few weeks ago it's about winning football games.

"We tried to play. We took some risks. We created a few things in the beginning of the game and then you need to defend because the opposItion plays as well."

Albion will check on Marcos Painter ahead of Tuesday's trip to Derby.

The left-back was forced off early in today's game with a hamstring injury.
