Albion boss Gus Poyet has refused to rule out dipping into the development squad again for next week’s FA Cup replay at Wrexham.

The Seagulls have the incentive of a home tie against Newcastle in the fourth round if they get past the Conference leaders at The Racecourse Ground.

Poyet’s plans for the replay are fluid, with so many players still missing or major doubts for Bristol City’s Championship visit to The Amex on Saturday.

Poyet said of the draw: “It’s a nice one but it is still the same for us. We’ll go and try to win the game (Wrexham), nothing else.

“Everything is going to be based on us, not on the opposition. I said in the press conference (Saturday) if it was Manchester United away or Chelsea away it would change our minds.

“Now it’s Newcastle at home, not away. We need to see how our players are, how many we have got available and things that happen, so it’s too early.”

Former Newcastle winger Kazenga LuaLua has undergone tests on the hamstring injury which forced him off in the second half against Wrexham.

Adam El-Abd was due to play until feeling a hamstring in training on Friday. Lewis Dunk is available to face Bristol after a ban but skipper Gordon Greer is still suspended and it is unclear whether Will Hoskins (knee), Craig Noone (hamstring), Marcos Painter (hamstring), Mauricio Taricco (hamstring) or Vicente will be fit enough to be involved.

“We don’t know,” Poyet said. “I would like to think there are a few that maybe can come back but last time I said Marcos Painter was going to be available and he broke down again.

“Adam El-Abd was going to play, then he pulled out during training on Friday and couldn’t. There are players who may be available but until it happens it’s difficult to say.”

Jake Forster-Caskey will almost certainly be left out of tomorrow night’s FA Youth Cup tie at West Ham.

Poyet added: “The problem is it looks as if he is very much going to be in the squad for Saturday, so we cannot risk any more players.”

Albion expect confirmation today of the date for the Wrexham game, which is dependent on ITV’s replay coverage plans.
