ALBION boss Gus Poyet is “very confident” of making two key signings before the end of the January transfer window.

He still wants another striker and midfielder to help the team cope with the more physcial and direct sides in the Championship following the 2-1 win at Peterborough.

Poyet said: “I am very confident that we will add a couple of players before the 31st. Let's hope we bring those two players that will make us even better.

“Ourselves and Peterborough are two of the best teams in the division, without any doubt, in terms of passing the ball, including the top teams. It's when you play teams with six or seven players over six foot and you need to start defending those long balls.”

Albion have so far this month drafted in Colombian goalkeeper David Gonzalez for the rest of the season to compete with Peter Brezovan and Casper Ankergren.

They have also added 18-year-old Dorchester striker Ben Dickenson to the development squad, although ankle ligament damage will delay his immediate involvement.

Poyet is still concerned about the never-ending spate of hamstring injuries affecting his squad. Left-back Marcos Painter lasted only six minutes at Peterborough due to a recurrence of hamstring trouble, which has wrecked his chances of playing against Newcastle on Saturday.

Poyet said: “It's something we need to improve. We cannot take any more risks and that is something I need to address very deeply, because it is getting a little bit annoying for me as a manager.

The injuries are going to follow me all season.”
