Poyet: We are busy despite early finish

Albion’s bosses are making the most of their season’s early finish, by getting to as many games as they can.

The Championship campaign ended nine days ago while divisions in England and abroad were in full swing.

Poyet has watched Chelsea twice in the past week but says, like assistant Mauricio Taricco and coach Charlie Oatway, he is also out and about at plenty more fixtures.

The Albion boss said: “We need to adapt to an early finish.

“It's strange but sometimes you complain because things are always the same “We are not going to complain because something is different.

“I’ve been at games. I’m not telling people where I am going. We’re hiding! Charlie and Tano are out too - all over the place.

“I always say football shouldn’t stop for so long in the summer but we need to adapt.”

Poyet has vowed to keep details of talks with under-contract plauer under wraps.

Albion confirmed on Friday they are not offering deals to Alan Navarro, David Gonzalez or Michael Poke but there could be more departures this close-season.

Poyet said: “We are a club who respects a contract and talks to the players.

“We have our plans. If other people then want to go away and talk that’s up to them.

“There’s nothing bad, nothing strange. People just want to know where they stand.”

Seagulls striker Craig Mackail-Smith is expected to be named today in the Scotland squad to play a friendly against the USA in Florida later this month.

So what if Poyets busy. I could understand this if he was looking around at some lower league clubs but what's he gonna find at Chelsea!? Is he so deluded that he thinks he's going to sign Drogba or Terry!! Not even the Chelsea tea lady would want to come Brighton! or maybe he's just checking out the ball boys.
Busy!! more like having a jolly with some old mates.

A youngster for the season! Poyet only said the other day he didn't want loan players because he wants to build for the future and all that.......yawn yawn....... As for fingers in Pies he should try some of his own first. Cold,expensive and full of gristle he would find.

Two youngsters that might be good for us Ryan noble at Sunderland and Jacob mellis ex chelsea after all Bridcutt turned out alright for us. Ps drogba and Kalou please on a bosman free transfer.seagulls!!!

The player of the season was a Chelsea reject. He was brought in to replace Navarro when he was injured but has ended up taking his place. I'm sure there are more gems like Bridcutt.

there must be plenty of them around certainly the chelsea n arsnal squads landsbury id quite like here
I trust that top priorities for the Albion are a midfield dynamo, a goalkeeper (with Brezovan as back up), a couple of strikers and probably two full backs - Calde is great but otherwise we are short. Mattock would be one option worth pursuing.
Much might depend on what happens with Vicente and now that Navarro is no longer part of the picture I wouldn't be surprised if more than one midfielder joined.
Picking up fringe players from the likes of Chelsea etc like Bridcutt as Albionfan33 says would be handy and certainly help the budget.
Whilst I am pleased to hear that Poyet and the team are busy watching potential targets I hope we see action rather than just activity. Lets hope Poyet gets the players he wants in before pre-season training starts. With David Burke in place Albion should be able to proceed effectively and efficiently.
Does anybody know if Gus has had his chat with TB yet on the budget ?

Roberto DeMatteo is an old colleague from Chelsea playing days. It does no harm for Gus to stay in touch, there may be some young talent at Chelsea who could do with some regular first team football next season.

Yogi, I've been saying the same. Would be a perfect fit for our midfield needs to get him back.

Gus was watching one of those Chelski games in an official capacity....he was on the punditry team with Barnes, Keegan and Craig Burley for ESPN's coverage of The FA Cup Final.

Valid point - and bear in mind RDM was at West Brom before Chelsea and I'm sure that helped with the loans from there too. I think that keeping in touch nowadays is called networking... an activity one or two of our contributors would not be too good at...!
