Albion striker Craig Mackail-Smith is a target for Norwich City.
But a deadline-beating move to the Premier League club is unlikely unless other deals fall into place for the Seagulls.
They are refusing to comment on whether Norwich have tabled a bid for Mackail-Smith, although the Argus understands there is interest from the Canaries in the former Peterborough hitman.
Norwich chief Chris Hughton, asked today if they have made an offer for Mackail-Smith, said: "There will always be speculation and rumours about numerous players and everything we do we try to do in the correct way, certainly behind the scenes.
"Anything that's out in any domain is speculation and something we've learned to cope with and continue to cope with.
"There are a lot of players we admire and anybody we bring in has to be the right player for this football club."
Mackail-Smith, linked with Leeds earlier in the summer, has been left out of the Scotland squad for World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Macedonia next month after missing their recently friendly win against Australia through injury.
