Poyet happy after draw

Gus Poyet felt Albion could have won at Derby today.

But he was pleased they saw out a 0-0 draw after missing chances to go ahead.

Albion played some attractive football and the Seagulls boss said: “I think we were decent.

“No doubt that we deserved something from the game.

“I think we had the better chances.

“These are the games when I go home of course I am disappointed because I want to win but I’m happy with the team because we did what I was expecting.

“We controlled most of the game. It’s a point, we need to take it.”

Derby came to life in the last 20 minutes after Dean Hammond missed the game’s best chance.

Poyet added: “On another day, maybe last year, probably we would concede a goal and lose the game.

“With the experience on the pitch we controlled it a bit better.

“We are a good team, and we proved it today.”

I would have been quite concerned about Buckley's injury but for the international break. Hopefully with no matches for two weeks he will have sufficient recovery time to be fit in time for the Middlesborough match.
Talking about injuries a bit of deja vu with Hoskins, Vicente and Buckley all out injured as they were 12 months ago.
The main difference this season is that our defence seems to be alot meaner and when CMS is back no doubt the goals will start to flow again. However when they do I trust that Poyet and Co don't forget the very obvious need for another striker. With or without a fit CMS we still need another goalscorer as this latest result reinforces.
As others have posted in the last few weeks we seem to have difficulty in finding someone suitable to sign even though the search has been going on for about 15 months now.
Does anybody have thoughts as to why ?

A real puzzle. I would have thought the fabulous stadium, and support would have acted like a magnet. Perhaps a naive view. Must be a salary issue or that the manager has simply not given an additional striker signing, absolute priority - the four signings at transfer deadline did not fit that particular criteria. I have posted ad nauseum that a big mobile target man, is crucial. The Premiership will not be reached without one but I remain certain that the manager will solve this one with a loan deal or a permanent signing in the next 'window'

Too true, this is a very competitive league, to be where we are now shows just how far we have travelled in such a short space of time. We all would like to be promoted again and its human nature to want more, but occasionally, i think to myself just how happy i am to be where we are. Today's result was a well earned point away to Derby county, a team we have mostly been behind in the tiers of football so a great result and a sure marker of our undoubted progress.SEAGULLS

Little bit worrying that of the two wingers at the club; one is injured again and one cannot start a game as he is only an impact player. Having said that watched Noone today and wow was a million pounds a good deal for a player that produced nothing and was subbed. With a fit Vicente and Crofts and also Mackail Smith back the future is well worth waiting for. But without cover up front I worry that if Mackail Smith gets injured any more we will struggle. Dobbie has to show his worth soon or supporters I feel will start getting on his back. Still confident of top 8 finish

We hit the bar,and the keeper did pull off a great save, but the big pole in our goal in the end kept the scores level.Dobbie seemed very lazy and wasnt chasing, maybe weve been spoilt by cms constant running. We seem to be over run by creative midfielders with no real outlet, but were in a great position going into the international break.UTA

Also just back from the game. Simply: if we had even an average striker on the end of our very good build-up play, we would have won by several goals today.

Dobbie is as one-footed as barn-door Billy. Admittedly he is more skilful but he didn't seem to have a forward's appetite, today. He wasn't going to let those big, nasty, rough defenders knock him about!

First time I have done this, so go easy on me please!

I sat in the Derby family section (directly opposite away fans) and noticed something I would like to mention, because I am not sure those of you there would have seen it; particularly as a I notice one or two are doubting Dobbie's commitment.

On no less than three occasions, Dobbie refused, despite the always hardworking Bridcutt asking firstly politely, then screaming at him on subsequent occasions, to track back and stop the short corner. On one occasion he appeared to deliberately turn his back and walk away, so not even facing the corner as it was being taken. I don't like the idea of knocking players, or know what GP's tactics were for corners if they played it short, but it didn't look like a commited player doing all he could to ensure it wasn't a reliving of the recent Hull match.

Incidently, I was in that end because I travelled with a diehard Derby fan and he was very pleased with a point.

Welcome, and keep posting, nice to read new views on here. Worrying about Dobbie, if he's not a team player that's a problem when he's on a three year contract. Only takes one or two disruptive players to cause splits in a squad, I'm sure Gus,Tanno & Charlie will sort it. What was the Derby fans perspective on the game and the Albion?

SecondReserve says...
9:07am Sun 7 Oct 12

We didn't play all that well and were lacking in attack but a point at Derby isn't a bad result and we've got the joint best away record in the division. The concern so far is our home record - only 8 points in 5 games. Cardiff and Leicester are at the top because they've both won all 5 of their home games. We all got excited when we signed 4 players on deadline day: All 4 of them were involved yesterday and to be truthful none of them were very good, possibly our 4 poorest players - disappointed with them all so far. Ok it takes time but they've been here for 5 weeks now and good players really should be settled in by now and Dobbie in particular doesn't look what we expected or what we most need.

Very interesting observation and frankly very worrying. We may be spoiled by CMS’ work rate and love him for it but the ironic thing is it is the one thing that anyone can do (professional footballer level of fitness taken as given) regardless of footballing ability – run, chase, harry and close down for 90 minutes. For this reason I’m surprised Gus doesn’t demand it of others when CMS is absent as we certainly miss what it brings when CMS isn’t in the side.

Have been issuing warnings about dobbie for awhile now and very interesting views of north Devon supporter. We cannot afford a free loader if his attitude and application fails to match up he should be treated as any new employee and fired in the first 3 month trial period while we can. It may be a confidence thing with Dobbie? Perhaps a goal will change things for him, but I agree with others that he has not exactly impressed so far, but he scored goals on his two loan spells with Blackpool. Perhaps its easier to see why Gus rates Barnes now - hard working team player who can score goals?

It's always disappointing when we don't win, but trying to be positive and realistic, ten games played, sixth in the table and a good goal difference. Pretty good I would say and certainly as good as I would have wished for at this stage in the clubs progress. The next few games in October will I think, be a very good barometer for where we're truly at this season and how near or far we are from really pushing on and making it an even more special season. I think we the fans, and I put myself at the top of the list, are suffering from, on-paper-itis.

When you look at our squad and you read up on their pedigrees, or you go online and watch some clips of goals scored, on paper we are top class. We have a collection players that reports say should take us to the top, but I don't know of any match that has been played on paper.

One area of our game does perform to on paper expectations, our defense and keeper, no doubts there, but the midfield isn't producing what on paper they should.

Dobbie, on paper, is a great signing for us and he probabaly will turn out to be so but when we watch him we are expecting more because of what we have read.

The reality of our squad is, yes we are good, 'if,' our opponents don't stifle our plays. Yes we are good, 'if,' key players are not injured. Yes we are good when officials don't see things that none of us see.

If we were to forget about what is written on paper, forget about online video clips and just concentrated on the last ten performances, I think we would all be very happy about where we are right now.

As short term solution but one that might prove or disprove a point and who knows, this guy might be a long term answer.

The MLS season is coming to a close and the New York Red Bulls have a guy called Cooper, check him out. Landon Donovan of Galaxy has proven the worth of short term loan deals from America.

Agree with Hovite about the Steak and Ale pies. My last one was mostly gristle, and didn't have that delicious spicy flavour that the (same???) pies had last season. I think the club owes us an explanation there. I won't be buying anymore pies until I get some assurance that they have improved.

By the way you message boarders, lets give the new boys more of a chance to settle. Get off Dobbie's back or he WILL put the proverbial 2 fingers up. In the home games against Birmingham and Ipswich he was close on a number of occasions to scoring with shots that had more venom and power than any other player in the squad possesses. If he had scored everybody would have been singing his praises. The margin between success and failure can be very small, and forwards thrive on scoring and praise. When things don't go well, then some players "hide" or seem to lose energy (this is often due to lack of confidence or reading the views of the fans). I thought he showed good skills and linked up well with the other players. Warren Aspinall is certain he will get 15 goals for us this season. You can't slate him for not being a striker - because he isn't one, but IMHO he shows the potential to be an excellent "inside forward" to use an old-fashioned title. Will Hoskins is the same, so for God's sake don't get on his back if and when he returns!

Best pies I've had we're away at Norwich a few years ago; Delia's recipe and delicious. Pies at Amex are not hot enough and pastry not crisp enough.
More importantly, I worry it's the same story as last season: start well and pick up points against some of the lesser teams, pick up a few injuries, lose momentum, drop points as we begin to play stronger sides and worry that the manager cannot sign the right players or cannot get the best out of the players he has, especially those up front.
Strong defence is really only plus point this season.

Good morning fellow Albion fans, disappointing result but let's not get to disheartened just yet.

Re the pies, we are still using exactly the same recipe, same meat supplier - nothing has changed, we actually use more ale now!

I know our meat supplier is a massive Albion season ticket holder, so I will pass on your comments, the nature of chuck steak is that it naturally has fat/connective tissues that aid cooking, it is impossible to remove all of this - however I will look at our quality checks following your feedback.

Let's hope for a win at the next game folks!

On a lighter note, one of our fans spoke to Delia about Albion pies and how great they are...

As short term solution but one that might prove or disprove a point and who knows, this guy might be a long term answer.

The MLS season is coming to a close and the New York Red Bulls have a guy called Cooper, check him out. Landon Donovan of Galaxy has proven the worth of short term loan deals from America.
this guy cooper~?whats his s urname?

Let's hope this is the start of a new trend and Gus starts to give us direct feedback on the team in the same way Jo has given us direct feedback on the pies....;0) Incidentially Jo as you're obviously reading this whilst the pies are a cut above most grounds I too feel they are not as good as they were at the very start. My first one had crisp pastry, no gristle, came wrapped in paper and had a sachet of salt and pepper in the box. Paper and condiments are long gone and it might be a coincidence but didn't have a single piece of gristle last season but this haven't had one without. Have started voting with my feet last couple of games and getting something from the Coldean takeaway on the way to the ground. Sorry - they were great when the Amex opened.

Too many Harveys - I am currently speaking directly to our meat supplier this morning, I have quality checked each week - without any issues.

We will be reviewing the supply chain this week, to see if we need to make any further changes.

We always read your responses, and if necessary take action where we can. Re the condiments, will pass this on to the ground (can't help on that front).

Our pies, are very important part of BHA - so we take it very seriously.

Thanks, Jo

Too many Harveys. For me it is "far too few Harveys"!! Every game is now a gamble as to whether there are any left!! I would say 8 times out of 10 at the end of the game it will NOT be possible to get a pint of it as they have run out! There are no signs up telling customers this, so when you get to the front of the queue after a 10 minute wait it is extremely frustrating to say the least! Surely, after a whole season and a bit, it is not rocket science to estimate how much is needed to meet demand? Regarding the pies, they have definately gone down hill since last year. I have only had 2 this year and they have been dry and tasteless and as you say, without any condiments and paper! This is the first time I have used this forum to complain about food and drink, however the issues have been raised by others so above is my contribution!

It's makes a change talking pie management and strategy, what you need to do is an online Amex pie fan survey.

At the moment I wouldn't be surprised if you have been using Palace fans for the filling ;o)

Cool yeah, at the Brum game I had the steak one, spat most of it out, went for a vegetarian one which sold out, then went for the Chicken Korma which was ok. Will try the chicken and Ham out next. Or just eat before I go there.
My pie was too hot (chicken and ham) and there wasn't a warning on the container. I'm suing the club for around 3 million. I'm then using the money to buy a new centre forward and give him to the club...
That gave me a lunchtime chuckle! Thanks for brightening up my Monday!

To get involved in the pie debate - I had a steak pie @ Ipswich last week and it was bloomin' lovely as usual. Thanks

Well , my post about the dire catering van's offerings outside the away end at Derby, seem to have raised a debate about the Amex pies.
With responses from Mrs Piglet!
If sales are proportionately effected and the comments on here might indicate that they have been (especially the steak and ale pies) then the suppliers will do well to take a serious look at the product now compared to the product offered at the beginning of last season.
Unfortunately, I fear, the burger van outside the away end at Derby will continue to serve up third rate offerings.

Always like a good debate on a Monday. As previously stated we haven't changed the recipe, however we have asked our meat supplier to look at supply chain for our steak and to give us some direct feedback on the above comments.

The pies are still selling like hot cakes (pardon the pun), but that doesn't mean to say we are not taking the comments seriously of course.

Thank you again, for taking the time to post and let us know. We will continue to strive to provide you with the best possible pies for the ground.

Kind Regards,

Jo

To think we are going to walk into the Premier League is naive in the extreme. We are developing very nicely, and enjoying a good season. If we are good enough this season, we will get promoted.
Absolutely. There are some very good teams in this division. It will take some doing to reach the summit.
Couldn't agree more, Golddene.
