Walk: Plan to take the Slater Trail to relive artist's work

The memory of Seaford’s once well-known woodcut artist Eric Slater has faded since his death 57 years ago. However, a more recent rediscovery of his work led to a ‘Slater Trail’ being created which revisits coastal sites that inspired his artistry. Steve Kisko heads to Cuckmere Haven to follow part of the artist’s trail. Under the governmentr social distancing guidelines you will not be advised to take this wlak at the moment but it will definitely be a good walk when the guidelines are lifted.

To learn more, Steve Kisko walks across Seaford Head following part of the ‘Slater Trail’, a route created to re-discover some of the coastal scenes that were the subject of his artwork.

Walk: Increase your fitness with this wonderful ramble

Weekend Walk: Hunting for holly bushes

Holly bushes and their red berries are a common sight at this time of year and a favourite for Christmas wreaths. While out exploring east of Henfield, STEVE KISKO comes across a number of woodlands and hedgerows where holly bushes are in abundance.

Ouse up for a walk

If you don’t like climbing over stiles this walk is ideal as it is stile-free. After following part of the River Ouse this walk takes Steve Kisko past the home of inter-war period writer Virginia Woolf and finds an isolated place where the Greenwich Meridian line is signposted.

Isfield is the way

Steve Kisko walks around the village of Isfield, crossing the meanders of the River Uck and the tracks of a preserved steam railway. This walk is best when Isfield Station is open to watch the steam trains in action.
