FROM a furious Womble to a streaker on the pier – what would life be without weird and wonderful stories?

The final year of the decade failed to disappoint Argus readers who have a penchant for the preposterous.

So to celebrate another year packed full of odd and sometimes odious news stories, we have chosen some of our favourites.

On the day we count down to the end of the decade, we count down the ten weirdest stories of the year.

Number 9: Customer shocked after being called a ‘c***’ by a cafe (December 2)

The Argus:

A customer was “taken aback” when he was sworn at after criticising the service at a cafe.

Neil Masey was unimpressed by his visit to Marwood Bar and Coffeehouse in Ship street, Brighton, and voiced his opinions on social media.

The Ovingdean resident aired his views on Facebook, stating he “didn’t like it here very much”.

Marwood Facebook account replied: “You sir are a miserable c***, stick to Greggs.” The 54-year-old said: “I have never been called miserable ever before in my life.”

Mr Masey said social media presented an “opportunity to turn the situation around” when mistakes were made.

He described how, when he had run a retail stall, he had made amends with a disgruntled customer and they had become a regular visitor - but this was not happening here.

He said that “if he had sent me a message saying ‘I’m really disappointed about this, what can we do to make it right?’” then perhaps the matter could have been resolved.
