FROM a furious Womble to a streaker on the pier – what would life be without weird and wonderful stories?

The final year of the decade failed to disappoint Argus readers who have a penchant for the preposterous.

So to celebrate another year packed full of odd and sometimes odious news stories, we have chosen some of our favourites.

On the day we count down to the end of the decade, we count down the ten weirdest stories of the year.

A BRIGHTON and Hove taxi was spotted more than 1,500 miles away.

The Brighton cab’s trademark colours were spotted by a traveller in Northern Albania.

The man who took the picture said: “I’m sure there is a perfectly reasonable explanation but why is there a Brighton and Hove taxi being used in Northern Albania?”

Streamline Taxis was contacted for comment.

The distance between Brighton and Albania is about 1,700 miles and would take about 28 hours to drive.

According to Better Taxi, a fare calculator website, a taxi fare is calculated by adding an initial £2.80 charge to the price per minute – estimated to be 33p.

This would make the journey to Albania cost about £550, although that excludes factors such ferries, overnight stops and, of course, the driver’s ride home.
