Cities in Sussex are among the most expensive in the country to own a home, new data has found.
A survey highlighted both Chichester and Brighton and Hove as among the most costly areas to own a home.
Both Sussex cities were found to be in the top ten most expensive cities based on how much of a monthly salary is spent on mortgages and housing costs.
Chichester, where the average home costs £477,709, was found to be the third most expensive city to own a home behind only Westminster and St Albans.
On average, around 119 per cent of an individual’s monthly salary would be spent on utilities, council tax and mortgage costs in the city.
In Brighton and Hove, housing costs still totalled more than the average monthly salary with 104 per cent of money earned being spent on owning a home.

In total, average house costs were slightly lower at £434,736, however housing still worked out as more expensive per salary than in London.
In comparison, just a third of a house owner’s monthly salary was spent on housing costs in Aberdeen, the cheapest city to own a house in the UK.
The research, conducted by L&C Mortgages, showed a clear north-south divide between the most and least expensive cities on the list.
