Conrad Vingoe

From: Brighton

Influences: Billie Holiday, Neil Young, Elliott Smith, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys, Nina Simone, Talk Talk, Sparklehorse, Cat Power, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Nick Drake, Jimi Hendrix, AC/DC, Phoenix, Jim O’Rourke, Ethan Johns, M Ward, Glenn Campbell and Miles Davis

Profile: The trend for many singer-songwriters today is to give up the big studio spaces and dictatorial producers and instead do it all themselves. That is precisely what Conrad Vingoe has decided to do on his latest album Simple Secrets, which was released earlier this month.

Taking inspiration from the singer-songwriters who inhabited Los Angeles’ Laurel Canyon in the 1970s, and the current Americana/folk scene, Vingoe recorded the whole album at home with limited equipment, playing the majority of instruments himself.

Previously Conrad was the recipient of a Fopp Award For New Music in 2006, which helped fund an EP of new music to be distributed through the record shop chain. His last album was 2009’s Spare Buttons And Bones which collected together material from previous independently released EPs.
