The Argus: Download of the Week
The Argus: Samuel Purdey

Samuel Purdey

From: Brighton

Influences: Steely Dan, The Doobie Brothers, Boz Scaggs, Earth Wind and Fire and Tower Of Power.

Profile: As Britpop slowly gurgled its last, Brighton-based session players Barney Hurley and Gavin Dodds were working on the Californian sound of what was to be their only album as Samuel Purdey, Musically Adrift.

Now the album, which was shelved by Sony and initially only released in Japan, has finally seen the light of day 14 years after the pair disbanded.

Rediscovered, repackaged and remastered by Tummy Touch Records, the album of soft rock and blue-eyed soul features contributions from Elliot Randall of Steely Dan and jazz pianist Neil Cowley.
