The Argus: Kate Walsh

Kate Walsh

From: Brighton via Burnham-on-Crouch, Essex

Profile: In 2007 Kate Walsh became one of Brighton Institute Of Modern Music's success stories, when her second album Tim's House knocked Take That off the top of the iTunes downloads chart.

The acoustic album of very personal tales of romance and heartbreak was recorded in the Brighton home of her producer and long-time collaborator Tim Bidwell.

She now has a five-album discography under her belt, including her 2010 covers album Peppermint Radio, which featured her own unique takes on songs by Radiohead, Blur, Prefab Sprout and The Cure.

Her latest album, The Real Thing, was drip-fed to her fans through a monthly track-by-track download on the 21st of each month from March this year, before its official launch on Monday, November 21.

The concept behind the album has been very simple, with Kate deciding to record every track live in its simplest form as one-take performances, with no overdubs or backing vocals.

As she puts it: "I want capture the moment the song is played on stage and transfer it to an album. This is the real me, the real thing…".
