The Argus: The Gypsy Switch

The Gypsy Switch

From: Brighton

Influences: Eastern European folk, rock and roll and blues. Their live set mixes originals and covers of favourites by The Doors and Daniel Johnston.

Profile: Brighton-based four-piece The Gypsy Switch beat the opposition to win the 2011 Juice 107.2 Battle Of The Bands last month.

The competition was held at the Old Paddling Pool, on Brighton seafront, as part of the first Brighton Beer Festival, with managing director of Metropolis Group Ian Brenchley acting as Simon Cowell for the night, alongside a team of music industry judges.

One of the two songs performed by the quartet was this week’s Download, Now You Know.

Amongst the judge’s feedback was the band’s original sound and blend of musical influences.

Now the four-piece, led by singer and guitarist Anton Duncan, with bassist Sam Wallis, guitarist Syd Bor and drummer Nathan Hetherington, are looking forward to a guided tour around Metropolis’s London recording studio, and imbibing a six-month supply of beer.

Their next show is a charity performance in aid of Horsham 100, which aims to raise £100,000 for the Dame Vera Lynn Trust. The charity supports children with cerebral palsy.
