The Argus: Thomas White

Thomas White

From: Brighton

Profile: Inspired by an extended holiday in Egypt in 2010, Electric Soft Parade and Brakes founder Thomas White's third solo album Yalla! was created with a travel guitar, laptop, Sony Handicam mic and profound feelings of both wonder and homesickness.

Written, recorded and mixed in a week and a half, following a regular programme of sunbathing, snorkelling, drinking and songwriting, the resultant album takes in White's feelings about the untimely death of his mother the previous year, his hometown, and issues of sexuality and identity.

Based around White's vocal, guitar and spare production it is billed as his most personal work to date, following on from his solo debut I Dream Of Black and the genre-crossing The Maximalist.

Yalla!, which is Arabic for "let's get going" is being released on Bleeding Heart Records on March 19.
