Making Tasty Pastry Is A Piece Of Cake

November 17, 2000 11:56: Two Brooklands lecturers won bronze medals after representing Great Britain in the world Patisserie Olympics in Germany.

Returning victorious were Alan Whatley and Andy Whitson, who whisked and then beat entries from over 10 countries with their culinary capers.

Combining the artistic skills of Michaelangelo with the speed and agility of Steve Redgrave, the master chefs created a statue of The Garden Water Lady using icing sugar and corn flour.

The pair were on sizzling form as they continued to impress judges after being asked to produce several surprise dishes to order.

Andy said: It was very hard work, but we were proud to have this opportunity of representing Britain at such a prestigious event.

However, this isnt the first time the two lecturers represented Britain in a major cooking event.

They won the International Gold Platter as part of the British World Master Chef team in 1994.
