Composer recruiting choir

A recruitment drive is being launched to find singers from churches across East Surrey to take part in a performance of the latest musical by Christian composer Roger Jones.

The musical, Wildfire, will be performed at Redhill's Harlequin Theatre in April 2003 and will tell the story of Stephen, the first Christian martyr.

It will be conducted by the composer with a touring cast of actors and dancers and the 120-strong choir plucked from churches in Reigate, Redhill, Merstham, Horley, Dorking and Tandridge.

Inspired by biblical characters and incidents, Birmingham-based Roger Jones has written 17 musicals.

This is the first time Redhill has been included in the national tour which takes place with each new production.

As part of the preparations he is visiting the town on Thursday, November 28 to speak at Redhill Baptist Church to church leaders and all those interested in joining the choir.

There will be an opportunity to hear, sing and buy music during the evening, which starts at 7.30pm.

Rehearsals will take place at Redhill United Reformed Church, Shaw's Corner, on Friday evenings from January 24 to April 4, 2003.

Anyone interested in becoming a choir member, or finding out more about the show, should call 01737 221 628.
